The city of Davao is known to be the largest city located on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. It is also one of the country’s most progressive cities. Discovering the Island Garden City of Samal

The name Samal is basically derived from the word Sama. It is a tribal group found in the island. Later on people used the word Samal because of the Visayans who miscalled the word Sama. According to history, the first datu in the island was Datu Taganiyug, a native of Peñaplata, Samal. In the past, the people of Samal name a place about what was the said place known for. The word Samal was also known before because it was commonly used as surname by Datus.

Today, this beautiful place is known to be the Island Garden City of Samal. The city was created through Republic Act No. 8471 in 1998. This organic act paved the way for the dissolution and merger of the three former-municipalities of Samal, Babak, and Kaputian into one local government unit.

To give a little description of the city, this island is rich in coral reefs and is ideal for scuba-diving and other aqua activities such as snorkeling and sailing. This paradise island has warm white sand beaches. The island has natural spring, waterfalls, numerous caves and mountain ranges. Camiguin is considered to be one of the most beautiful islands in the Philippine archipelago. This place allows visitors to experience a sample of untouched beauty in its totality. Camiguin is actually the smallest province in Northern Mindanao, with its land area at only 29,187 hectares. This island is only made up of five towns namely: Mambajao – the capital town, Mahinog, Guinsiliban, Sagay and Catarman. According to the National Statistics Office, this paradise has a population of approximately 74,232 individuals, making the province the second smallest in the Philippines based on population.
